[89] 2026: The Year Culture Grows Up [pt2] 🔮
Hello 2026: Expression gives way to responsibility, permanence, and long-term life design.
TL;DR Welcome to 2026 – and with it, 10 predictions for the new year. For this edition, I synthesized all my 2025 Culture Codes to arrive at 10 high level signals across industries that I believe we will see this year manifest.
This is part 2 of the series, find part 1 here.
6. Finance & Fintech
Financial Literacy Becomes Cultural Capital
Finance is reframed as a decision-making and life-design tool, helping people understand probability, risk, and long-term consequences. On the one hand, #fintok is growing, with financial literacy having entered peak meme culture.
On the other there’s the rise of prediction markets (e.g., Kalshi), where financial participation moves beyond spending or investing into forecasting real-world outcomes. These platforms signal a growing cultural appetite for probabilistic thinking and future literacy…but also expose new risks.
As prediction markets normalize, they blur the line between financial education, speculation, and moral responsibility. The ability to price the future becomes powerful, and potentially destabilizing, if not paired with context, guardrails, and trust.
Cultural shift: Convenience → confidence - and consequence
Winning brands: Teach probability, uncertainty, and restraint—not just access and speed
Cultural Signal:
7. Artificial Intelligence
AI Shifts from Efficiency Engine to Decision Architecture
AI’s value moves upstream; from automating tasks to supporting judgment. The most trusted systems help people prioritize, weigh trade-offs, and understand consequences.
Cultural shift: Speed → decision confidence
Winning brands: Build explainable, human-aligned AI
Cultural Signal via Proof of Concept
8. Travel & Hospitality
Travel Becomes Future Rehearsal
Travel shifts from escape to experimentation, testing how people want to live, work, age, and belong. Slow travel and residencies replace bucket-list tourism.
Cultural shift: Escape → exploration
Winning brands: Enable life insight, not just experiences
Cultural Signal:
9. Food & Beverage
Food Becomes Functional Culture
Food moves beyond indulgence or virtue signaling into daily performance and longevity support without moralizing. Injectable GLP-1 culture becomes prescription free oral supplement culture.
Cultural shift: Treat vs. clean → purposeful nourishment
Winning brands: Balance pleasure, function, and credibility
Cultural Signal: Evolve GLP-1s (but oh-so many)
10. Beauty
Pro-Longevity Replaces Anti-Age and changes Discourse
Beauty undergoes a philosophical reset: from fighting time to designing for durability. Products support skin health, resilience, and self-knowledge across life stages.
Cultural shift: Youth obsession → longevity intelligence
Winning brands: Walk with people over decades, not moments
Cultural Signal: No-tox movement, reductive surgeries

Why These Predictions Land in 2026 (why now)
These shifts don’t emerge in 2026 by accident. They land now because culture has finished experimenting.
The years leading up to 2026 were defined by excess choice, accelerated change, and performative identity. People tested aesthetics, platforms, tools, and values at high speed. Systems were stressed. Trust was diluted. Attention fragmented. The result was saturation, not clarity.
2026 marks the point where experimentation exhausts its usefulness.
Across all ten predictions, the same timing logic applies:
Retail can no longer survive on launches alone; relationship fatigue has peaked.
Technology has reached a trust ceiling; platforms must now be mediated by people.
Media has maxed out reach; human depth becomes the only remaining growth lever.
Healthcare and wellness move upstream because reactive models are too late and too costly.
Fashion and beauty abandon trend churn because consumers no longer believe in reinvention without consequence.
Finance shifts toward literacy and prediction because volatility has made ignorance expensive.
AI moves from efficiency to judgment because speed without direction creates risk.
Travel evolves from escape to rehearsal because people are no longer running from life, they’re redesigning it.
Food reframes around function because moralized consumption has lost credibility.
Beauty embraces longevity because time can no longer be treated as an enemy.
2025 we saw signals seed.
2026 is when systems catch up.
This timing also aligns with a broader cyclical reset. After a period of endings and excess, culture enters a foundational phase, one that favors initiation, responsibility, and long-term thinking. What begins in moments like this is expected to last. And I’m here for it!
2026 is not the year culture imagines new futures.
It’s the year culture commits to them.

“Travel evolves from escape to rehearsal.” I’d add a third option: travel as reading. When I drove from Sóller to Valldemossa last week, I wasn’t escaping or rehearsing — I was reading a landscape I already had partial vocabulary for. Puglia in the olive groves. Greece in the stone walls. The code doesn’t live in the place. It lives in the person arriving. Same island. Different language.
Sounds like a lasting memory, your trip! Thanks for sharing.
